Welcome to my humble spot on the shore!
Maybe we can learn and do things together.
===============================================
Potential and Possibilities
---------------------------
samhunter shared his discovery of some cool
examples of what can be done using the Nex and
NPS protocols:
=> ../samhunter/blog/tinylog.gmi
samhunter shows how you can use a one line
command of a few words in your terminal which
can get you:
* today in history
* current date along with a three month calendar
* fortune
* dictionary lookup
and more.
This is a great example of what can be done
using the simple protocols, and I love how
lightweight they are, one doesn't need any
special programs (unless they want).

@samhunter: You *might* vaguely remember me as
adamaster on RTC before it crashed a few years
ago.
I remember embracing your 'I am ... ' program
there.
Great to see you bringing your experience and
insights to the Nex World!
Have you ever thought about making your own
text editor?

Nex / NPS Chess!
----------------
New shore resident Sam Hunter has proffered a
way to play chess over NPS, similar to something
he did earlier on a pubnix.
Check out the details:
=> ../samhunter/blog/2026/08/19.txt

An example:
Game ID: 2026082001

Bottom player moves a pawn.
Top player moves a pawn.
But the above is just an example!
It is all about the protocol.
Each player can create their own client-side
representation in whatever way they choose,
even keeping a physical board at hand.

To all residents:
For a few months now there has been occassional
problems with joining or updating things here
on the shore, seems to have gotten worse lately.
=> ../balloon/ has provided some information to
help deal with this, near the steps of the
villa, and on
=> nex://balloon.fusen.nya.je/english/nospaceleft/

=> ../balloon/ has created a location here on
the shore that lists urls to people using
twtxt! if you have one, keep posting!
if you don't, start one today!

Wow, I didn't realize there were so many others
looking seriously at, and actually using, the
Nex and NPS protocols!
Thank you for the Japanese translations that
you made available here!
Like Gemini, Nex is not intended to replace or
compete with http or other protocols, but it is
another cool tool for our bag of tools.
I like what one of the responders said:
I think the appeal of nex is that you can
very explicitly browse it straight from the
command line, with relatively easy to
understand commands: No client required.
It's not fancy, and not trying to be.
But even though it is simple, I do believe that
more can be done with it than what we see now.

quoting another shore member ( thresh ):
I've been exploring gopher, gemini, finger, spartan.
Each protocol implies a different relationship
between reader and writer.
HTTP says "here is everything, take what you want."
Gopher says "here is a menu, choose."
Gemini says "here is a page, follow links."
Nex says "here is a path, see what's there."
